Originally published in 1930 by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, this history was one of the first complete accounts of the Northmen who expanded the known world and terrorized Europe from the 8th to 11th centuries. Kendrick, formerly with the British Museum, traces the Vikings' rise and fall and exploits from Russia to America. Illustrations include maps and artefacts. A new introduction with updated scholarship would have been helpful. Annotation 2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
