Galileo, Darwin, and Hawking : The Interplay of Science, Reason, and Religion

In an introduction to the philosophy of science, Dowe (philosophy, U. of Queensland-Brisbane, Australia) identifies four basic ways to relate science and religion. Both Naturalism and Religious Science approaches present them as antagonistic, the Independent view understands them as totally unrelated, and the Interaction account sees them as complementary. He finds the last most historically and philosophically compelling, and defends it with evidence from the life and work of the three scientific giants.
