Product Description

In 1827, a royal commission began investigating grants of honor, peerages, baronetcies, and knighthoods bestowed on the adherents of the Stuarts by James II after his 1688 abdication and by his son and grandson. The study was dropped after two years. The titles have no legal standing, of course, but could be of interest in matters of heralds and genealogy, so the Marquis took up the project later in the century. The text has been reset in modern type. Annotation (c) Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
