Jacob and David both had daughters who were sexually violated, Bader (biblical studies and women's studies, College of Wooster, Ohio) points out, but neither of the stories focuses on the women or on their fathers, who are portrayed as somewhat more relaxed about the crimes than seems altogether proper to modern readers. Instead, the focus in both cases in on the maternal brothers of the violated women, who killed the perpetrators.
