This new volume to the terrific eight-volume News of the Plains and Rockies contains letters and reports written between 1808-1865. Among the authors and topics are an account of the Donner expedition, the first account of the end of the Texan Santa Fe Expedition, an 1851-56 12,000-mile geologic survey of Oregon and Washington, Julia Archibald Holmes' account of her ascent of Pike's Peak, and reports of the botany expedition that accompanied the Mexican Boundary Survey.
