Convenient, accessible kits have been developed for RNA research, but "they give many researchers a false sense of security"--so state the authors in their preface to this manual. In an effort to help potential RNA researchers--novices as well as experienced scientists--deal with intimidating hurdles, navigate the complexities, and gain confidence, four eminent authors have joined forces to present methods they use routinely in one or the other of their labs. Coverage begins with fundamental principles and techniques, which are followed by more sophisticated techniques designed to explore specific RNA-protein interactions. Later chapters describe current methodologies for using RNA interference as a tool for determining gene function, and methods for performing genome-wide investigations.
