MRSA : Current Perspectives

Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains are notorious for causing wound infections after surgery and can be especially difficult to combat. The 11 contributions in this collection describe laboratory techniques for detecting MRSA, molecular approaches for epidemiological characterization, virulence factors contributing to pathogenesis, and the genetics and regulation of resistance mechanisms to the major classes of anti-staphylococcal antibiotics. The primary audience is microbiologists, although the last two chapters on the responsible treatment of MRSA infections and the prevention and control of MRSA may also be of interest to clinicians and hospital staff.
