As a companion volume to the author's Tsongkhapa's Six Yogas of Naropa from 1996, this book contains translations of six classical Indian and Tibetan texts, his disciple Pandita Naropa, Lama Jey Tsongkhapa, Gyalwa Wensapa, the First Panchen Lama, and Jey Sherab Gyatso. The texts describe the roots and approach to the method of achieving enlightenment, and their continuation from the eleventh to the nineteenth century. The authors touch on how Buddhist trainings prepare the mind, the "three blendings," specifics of the yogic disciplines, and discussions of inner heat and consciousness transference yogas. Mullin, a Tibetologist, author, and expert on Buddhist meditation, introduces each text. There is no index. Annotation 2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
