Product Description

The first volume in the trilogy, published in 1986, introduced and translated the Progymnasmata and some related texts. The 2002 second volume translated various classroom exercises that used the chreia, especially during the third, or rhetorical stage of the curriculum. In this concluding volume, Hock (religion, U. of Southern California) collects and translates six contemporary commentaries. They are by John of Sardis, the P-Scholia, by John Doxapatres, Rhetorica Marciana, by Maximus Planudes, and Matthew Camariotes' epitome of it.
