The latest volume in a series of reprints of eighteenth-century Irish prose books which are no longer well known, this book is a reprint of the early novel The History of Jack Connor. It is the only book by its author, William Chaigneau. The author was not Irish, but the book opens and closes in Ireland and deals with Irish settings and issues as part of its programme as an early and experimental example of the novel form. An introductory essay by the editors offers historical and literary context for the book and the era of writing in which it was popular. This is a reprint of the first London edition of 1752.
