The Dialectic of Academic Librarianship : A Critical Approach

Bales presents students, academics, researchers, and library professionals working in academic contexts with a critical examination of the role of academic librarians as information professionals in late-capitalist society. The author has organized the main body of his text in seven chapters devoted to dialectics and the modern capitalist academic library (MCAL), understanding the MCAL non-dialectically, dialectical material monism as an alternative way to understand the MCAL, and a wide variety of other related subjects.
