Inscriptions are a fixed component of statuary monuments in Greek sculpture. Unlike their textual content, their materiality and aesthetics were long overlooked in classical studies. This study is thus the first to examine questions relating to the design of statuary inscriptions and the associated social practices between the Archaic and Hellenistic periods.
