§15§The present volume tries to do justice to the variety of self-representational strategies in the art and literature of the late medieval and early modern period by focusing on both the traditional contexts of self-definition (such as courts, schools and religious institutions) and the more innovative contexts of humanist art and literature. The essays collected in this volume represent some of the scholarly approaches to historical testimonies of self-representation and self-fashioning, and hence deal with the literary, artistic, philosophical and theological conceptions of the self. They are preceded by a more general essay indexing the ways in which self-representational texts, ego-documents and self-testimonies should be defined. 'Self-Fashioning' bzw. 'Personenselbstdarstellung' als kultureller Typus charakterisieren das 15. und 16. Jahrhundert in einer besonderen Weise, die für das Verständnis des kulturellen Wandels im Übergang zur Frühen Neuzeit als überaus wichtig erkannt §15§ worden ist. Die in diesem Sammelband vereinten Tagungsbeiträge von Germanisten, Romanisten, Kunsthistorikern, Latinisten, Niederlandisten und Humanismusforschern behandeln das Thema in theoretischer Exposition sowie unter den Aspekten der literarischen Personencharakteristik und Selbstinszenierung, des künstlerischen Selbstverständnisses und philosophischer bzw. frömmigkeitstheologischer Personenkonzepte. §03§ §01§The Editors: Rudolf Suntrup, of the Institut für Deutsche Philologie I of the University of Münster (Germany), and Jan R. Veenstra, of the Department of Philosophy of the University of Groningen (The Netherlands), are the joint editors of the Medieval to Early Modern Culture Series. This series of books publishes the proceedings of an ongoing research collaboration of the universities of Groningen and Münster. This project, which is promoted by the Netherlands Research School for Medieval Studies, involves not only researchers from Groningen and Münster but also many other invited researchers from a number of countries. Die Herausgeber: Rudolf Suntrup und Jan R. Veenstra, wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter am Institut für Deutsche Philologie I der Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität Münster bzw. am Philosophischen Institut der Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (NL), geben die Tagungsbände eines gemeinsamen Projektes der beiden Universitäten heraus, zu dem sich - auf Initiative der Groninger O §01§nderzoekschool Mediëvistiek hin - seit 1997 Spezialisten aus vielen Ländern zweimal jährlich zusammenfinden.
