Canine patients require general anaesthesia for safe and effective handling.The general anaesthetic agents used for this purpose should be able to produce adequate levels of sedation, analgesia and muscle relaxation. It should have a wide margin of safety and should not cause any long-term physiological alteration. Propofol (2, 6 di-isopropyl phenol) is a short-acting intravenous anaesthetic agents which provides smooth and rapid induction with shorter duration, and quick and excitement-free recovery with minimal effect on the body systems. Propofol is safe and suitable anaesthetic agent for clinical use in a variety of canine patients.
