Product Description

Municipal solid waste management tends to focus on collecting, transporting, and disposing waste, says Kien, with little or no attention to waste generation. She points out that most waste is generated in the home or at the market, mostly by women, so it can be addressed as a gender issue. She posits that a concerted social enculturation through sensitization and awareness campaigns can do more to solve the solid waste problem than finding more money and newer technology. Her case study is the City of Bamenda, Cameroon, where she grew up. This study began as her PhD dissertation in gender and women's studies at the University of Buea, Cameroon.
