Informal and Formal Social Protection Systems in Sub-Saharan Africa

Devereux (Institute of Development Studies, U. of Sussex, England) and Getu (a program specialist at the Organization for Social Science Research in Eastern and Southern Africa, Ethiopia) present the results of a project in which African researchers where invited to produce country case studies exploring local sources of vulnerability, poverty, and exclusion together with the informal and formal social protection systems through which people cope with such issues. Eleven case studies from different localities in Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, and Lesotho are presented. Distributed in North America by the African Books Collective.
