Prolific occult writer Summers (1880-1948) explores legends of half-human, half-wolf creatures in selected parts of Europe. Because of the plethora of information, he limited the study from the world to Europe, then to the Catholic Mediterranean region, the western archipelago, France, and the north and Russia and Germany. He also includes chapters on lycanthropy and the science and practice of the werewolf. The 1933 original was published by Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner, and Company in London as The Werewolf .
