Farming the Cutover : A Social History of Northern Wisconsin, 1900-1940

This study explores the history of northern Wisconsin, an area cleared by commercial loggers and promoted as a place for yeoman farmers to settle. The text looks at the thousands of families who sought to recreate old worlds and build new farms on land that would come to be regarded as worthless.
