Though heavily concerned with genealogy and biography, this book also considers the political, legal, and social history of the Cherokees, especially during the period 1828 to 1908. The book originally appeared in 1921 (Oklahoma City). The author's brief preface declares his aim of preserving facts about the Cherokees that might otherwise be lost, and he extends his appreciation to members of the nation for their cooperation in helping him assemble the material.
