This study employs concepts of rhetorical theory and biopolitical theory in order to reveal rhetorical devices found in public discourse about the value of individual human lives. Two rhetorical devices, catacosmesis and somatopeia, are examined to understand rhetorical and discursive practices in public discourses related to who is human and who is not.
