Playing the Odds : Las Vegas and the Modern West

This volume collects 66 essays penned by the late Rothman (former professor of history at the U. of Nevada) for the Las Vegas Sun, High Country News, The Los Angeles Times and other publications on the subject of his adopted city, Las Vegas. Among the general themes tackled by Rothman are Las Vegas as American urban model, Las Vegas as a community, and eco-politics and social responsibility, although the specific topics range widely.
