Ryan (geology and oceanography, Okaloosa-Walton College) et al. provide a guide to road trips in different regions of Florida that focus on its geological elements. They first cover the state's geological and paleontological history and how the landscape was shaped, then take the reader on a tour of regions: the panhandle, northern peninsula, central peninsula, southern peninsula, and Florida keys. In each, specific drives along highways are laid out, usually between major cities, with mileage and historical, archaeological, and ecological points of interest along the way. Oceanographic environments and processes are given special emphasis. Additional routes for accessible side roads are given, and maps, color photos of rocks and other items, and diagrams are included.
