A joint 2005 workshop held in Florence in May and Budapest in June drew historians and social scientists mostly from eastern, but some from western, Europe, to discuss how institutions and methods developed in the Soviet Union were transplanted into eastern European states after 1945. The 15 papers examine such topics as the Czechoslovak way towards mass production, The League for Polish-Soviet Friendship in Stalinist Poland, and Hungarian historiography during the early 1950s.
