The 14 papers were selected from those generated by a three-year international research project initiated at North-West University in South Africa in 2004, and have been revised and updated from their presentation at Society gatherings between 2004 and 2006. Among the topics are various views of war and violence in the Old Testament world, disputes about the calendar in Jewish apocalyptic literature and its basis, animosity against Jewish and pagan magic in the Acts of the Apostles, an ethical analysis of the exhortation in 1 Peter 3:9 not to repay evil with evil, and hostility against the wealth of Babylon in Revelation 17:1-19:10. The Society of Biblical Literature publishes the paperbound edition; Brill publishes the clothbound edition. Annotation 2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
