The recently designated period Late Antiquity is generally studied in terms of the Roman Empire and its continuation in Byzantium and of the rise of Islam, but Daryaee and Rezakhani argue that Iran's Sasanian Empire was also a major force in the region during that period, and influenced the later history of the Near East. Among their topics are the idea of Iranshahr in Eurasian history, Sasanians and the east, economy and trade, language and literature, a timeline of late antique Iran, and the Sasanian family tree.
