This architectural study explores the history and geography of the Empire State Building, and the blocks immediately surrounding it, over the past 200 years. Charting the building materials that have been used in this area, the study details the planning and construction of the Empire State Building, as well as the demolition of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel and other historic buildings on the site. The study attempts to examine the architecture of one building across a range of temporal and spatial scales and chronicle the movement and convection of material and energy across the surface of the earth for this one building.
