Italy-Portugal on the Margins: Intersections of Architecture, Urban Design, and Art (The City Project)

This volume gathers different disciplinary, methodological and thematic perspectives on architecture understood as a cultural, critical and design practice. Through an articulated dialogue between history and contemporaneity, theory and practice, design and teaching, the essays collected here explore the role of architecture as an instrument for interpreting reality and as a device capable of intervening critically in the processes of transformation of the built environment. They also highlight important aspects of the cultural relationships between Italy and Portugal in the XX century. Based on the International Conference “In the Margins: Italy Portugal”, held on April 10–11, 2025, in Lisbon, Portugal, this book offers a timely reference for both academics and professionals operating in the broad fields of architecture, urban design and art.
