The second edition of this book is more extensive and detailed than the previous edition 20 years ago. New technical methods have increased our understanding of many tumours. The earlier group of monomorphic adenomas has been separated for purposes of identification, and clearly defined tumours, even if uncommon, are categorized separately. Considering their different pathohistological definitions and differences in prognosis and treatment, a separate listing of the various types of carcinomas was preferred, and new entities are included (e.g. polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma, basal cell adenocarcinomas). The addition of the TNM classification of salivary gland tumours and the more detailed description of the tumour-like lesions will contribute to a better understanding concerning the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of salivary gland tumours.
