Nooy-Palm continues her study of the social life and religion of the eastern and western Sa'Dan-Toraja people in Sulawesi, Indonesia by looking at their rituals. She deals with a number of rituals as independent ceremonies but also explains how they are inter-related. Examining the role of ritual in the Toraja's religious and social system, she describes the parts played by diverse religious functionaries and traditional forms of participation by different classes.
