Safe Management of Wastes from the Mining and Milling of Uranium and Thorium Ores (IAEA Safety Standards Series)

This publication is an update of IAEA Safety Series No. 44, published in 1976, necessitated by a number of developments in the technical and regulatory aspects of the management of wastes resulting from the mining and milling of uranium and thorium ores. It consists of two parts: a Code of Practice (Part I) and a Guide to the Code (Part II). The Code sets forth the requirements for the safe and responsible handling of the wastes, while the Guide presents further guidance in the use of the Code together with some discussion of the technology and concepts involved.
