This ethnographic study examines a group of migrants from Malawi, Zimbabwe, and South Africa who moved to Cape Town out of economic necessity.The study investigates to how they overcame structural exclusion by forming and maintaining convivial relationships through the Bay Community Church and how this was facilitated by information and communication technologies like cell phones and Facebook. Drawing on fieldwork conducted between 2012 and 2013, the author describes the church as a convivial space and home away from home for its migrant members, including the contextual background of the Pentecostal and Charismatic Church movement, the history of the Bay Community Church, how warmth and intimacy are inscribed through ritual and expressed in interactions, and the effects of mixing cultures and religious backgrounds.
