American-born Fenollosa (1853-1908) was an authority on Chinese and Japanese art and literature. After he died, his widow passed his papers to American poet Pound (1885-1972), also a scholar of Asian literature, who extracted from them his treatment of Noh theater, and added his own translation of 15 example plays.
