Milton used an extensive amount of dialectic in Paradise Lost and elsewhere, argues Pruitt (English, Christian Brothers U.), in order to consider competing perspectives of theology and gender through his presentation of Adam's and Eve's relationship. She also explores representations in Paradise Lost of the relationships between Father and Son and between the divine and the human. She is particularly concerned with the notion of atonement as a way of achieving "at-one-ness," as well more standard notions of redemption.
