Product Description

McCoy is a Jesuit priest who has worked among Australia's Indigenous communities for nearly 40 years. In this work, part folklore study and part policy, he uses interviews with Aboriginal men from the remote Kimberly desert communities to illustrate how the population views and engages with its own health, notoriously poor by Western standards. Integral in this view is the value of kanyirninpa or "holding." The author draws recommendations from his study of this value for improvements on the health of Indigenous men. Some artwork from the region is included. This book is distributed in the US by ISBS. Annotation 2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
