Waters and Janse, both affiliated with the Laboratory of Parasitology, Center for Infectious Diseases, Leiden University Medical Center, provide reviews of the most important aspects of post-genomic malaria research. Early chapters are devoted to a description of the P. falciparum genome, the additional benefits that comparative Plasmodium genomics might bestow, and how the data must be managed now and the in the future as post-genome analyses provide increasingly complex data sets. Later chapters describe applications of the genome resources, then concentrate on aspects of molecular biology, looking at gene expression, chromosome structure, cell cycle control, the apicoplast, and merozoite and ookinete cell biology. Distributed in the US by ISBS, the book will be of interest to parasitologists, molecular biologists, genetic engineers, and those in pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
