Ngcaba (b. 1929) recounts her life growing up in South Africa's Eastern Cape and becoming a nurse, community figurehead, and a leading voice of dissent against the apartheid regime. Her activism led to her being detained for a year without trail when she was 57 years old. She also describes her personal life and relationships with her family, her husband, children, and grandchildren. Among the life lessons she shares are tribalism in South Africa, raising a family, balancing professionalism and traditionalism, being a father, how technology is affecting women, and creating a legacy.
