Salzman (history, U. of California-Riverside) and Roberts (Latin Wesleyan U.) present new Latin texts as well as English translations of letters by Quintus Aurelius Symmachus signo Eusebius (d. 405 AD), known as a traditionalist who spoke eloquently against the creeping influence of Christianity. They have sought to make the English easily readable, but at the same time retaining a sense of his propensity for archaism, formality, and literariness. This first volume presents texts and extensive commentary on 107 letters. The Society of Biblical Literature publishes the paperbound edition; Brill publishes the hardbound.
