Hunter is one of California's most recognized artists, best known for her watercolors of historical landmarks. With Stevens (English, State Center Community College District), she co-owns an art gallery in Fresno, and together they have also produced several books on California architecture and history. They provide residents and visitors with an enjoyable account of their recent trip from Big Sur's Bixby Creek, at the midpoint of the state's coast, north to the end of Highway 1 at Leggett, and along Highway 101 to the Oregon border. Illustrated with 100-plus watercolors, the memoir invites readers to reacquaint themselves with familiar favorites or discover for the first time, as did they, remarkable sites off the well-traveled road.
