Nach seiner Habilitation im Fach Betriebswirtschaftslehre war er Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Kreditwirtschaft und Finanzierung an der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main und darüber hinaus Direktor des Instituts für Kapitalmarktforschung. Ab 1993 lehrte er als Professor an der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. Heute ist er Professor an der ADG Business School, Montabaur.
