§16§The Sea buckthorn plant is considered to be a wonder plant and is a bank of many antioxidants. This book is mainly focused on the ability of sea buckthorn as functional food. The plant is a rich source of many bio active natural antioxidants like polyphenols, vitamin A, C, K, carotenoids, tocopherols, omega- 3 fatty acids and many others. The plant parts are equally important in case of cardiovascular diseases, gastric diseases, skin problems, radiation, lipid metabolism, arthritis, bone fracture and also reduced the oxidative stress produced from lipid per-oxidation. Thus Sea buckthorn has vast potential to be a functional food or part of it.
