While English teachers are used to relying on the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) principles, they now must integrate the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) into their practice. Perry (English education, U. of Alabama) offers a volume addressing common concerns which shows teachers how to address the real needs and interests of students. Vignettes of seven teachers practicing in a range of contexts are included. The volume has no footnotes or index but a four page appendix breaks the subject down into topics and provides references to relevant books and journal articles. In addition, references to the NCTE site where one can find Internet links, sample forms, and interactive opportunities appear throughout the book.
