Reid (U. of Wisconsin-Eau Claire) has written numerous books for ALA Editions, and authors the "Reid-Aloud Alert" column for Book Links magazine. Where the 2009 ALA Edition Reid's Read-Alouds profiled children's and young adult books published between 2000 and 2008, the new guide contains books from 1950 to 1999, from a variety of genres, for various age levels, free of racial stereotypes, and featuring a balance of male and female protagonists. The annotated bibliography contains 200 entries, organized alphabetically by author. Each entry contains title, publisher, publication date, number of pages, grade recommendation, and "10 Minute Selections" identifying captivating episodes from the books that can be read in one brief setting.
