Wright and Schempf (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Admin., Juneau, Alaska) present 43 papers assembled into "the best compilation of information about Bald Eagles in Alaska." The collection includes both unrevised and revised papers originally presented at a symposium held by the Bald Eagle Research Institute in Juneau in 1990, and recent, invited papers. The majority of the 60-plus authors are long-time Alaska-based researchers and wildlife experts who know bald eagles not as an endangered species, but as an integral part of the avifauna of the 49th state. Coverage includes the Southeast Alaska environment, home to roughly one-fifth of the world's bald eagle population; bald eagle biology; population history and status; current management; and bald eagles in a changing land. While the text focuses on Alaska, the information will be valuable to scientists, resource managers, students, and the general public throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico.
