They''re the one group as interested in getting into trouble as I am.
—Richard Foreman, avant-garde theatre legend
For decades, the Wooster Group has fearlessly explored everything from Our Town, pornography, and The Cocktail Party, to Timothy Leary and the suicide of Spalding Gray''s mother. The result is a series of startling collages—The Rhode Island Trilogy, Route 1 & 9, L.S.D.—that invariably arouse excitement and incite controversy
In Breaking the Rules, David Savran captures the essence of the Wooster Group by creating his own collage. Combining detailed description, critical commentary, production photographs, and extensive interviews with company members, Savran brings into sharp focus these remarkable artists and the astonishing pieces they have made.
