Published in honor of John Plummer, the 16 essays of this collection address questions of word and image in medieval manuscript painting, in particular those in the Morgan Picture Bible in the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York, itself the subject of an exhibition held at Princeton U. (home of the Index for Christian Art) in 2004. The contributors are senior scholars in the field.
