Media Activism is the first collection of its kind to explore the political economy of social movements, the aesthetic styles and cultural forms of mediated political expressions, and the patterns of longer-term historical change in the forms and tactics of activism.
From memes to zines, hacktivism to artivism, this book considers activist practices involving both older kinds of media alongside newer digital, social, and network-based forms. The book provides fascinating case studies of activists using media to make political interventions in different historical periods and at local, national, and global levels.
