Urban Tumbleweed : Notes from a Tanka Diary

In Urban Tumbleweed Harryette Mullen, a critically acclaimed poet and winner of the £50,000 Jackson Poetry Prize, explores the space where both the city and natural world collide. Offering a stark and original commentary on the Los Angeles landscape, Mullen adopts the traditional Japanese tanka form, stirking controversy within the confines of three-line, 31 syllable stanzas. Her work is described by critics as 'brilliant and enigmatic, familiar and submersive', and Urban Tumbleweed is a perfect representation of this.
