Product Description

The problem Wakefield addresses is that the six references to scripture in the passage do more to obscure than clarify Paul's argument that the Galatians should not take up the law, and some even seem to counter it. He attributes the bewilderment of the many scholars who have grappled with the difficulty for these many centuries to their trying to make sense of each reference individually. Instead he considers the possibility that they work together as a matrix. He reviews and analyzes past scholarship, discusses intertextuality and ungrammaticalities and presuppositions, and draws his conclusions. Only modern authors are indexed. The Society of Biblical Literature publishes the book and distributes the paperbound edition; Brill distributes the clothbound edition. Annotation 2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
