Writings by Theodore (ca. 350-428) have been scraped together from various manuscripts and translations, and here is an English translation of a Latin version of his commentary on the minor epistles of Paul, which were edited by Henry B. Swete in 1880-82. Ancient authors refer to his commentary on all the epistles, but only these ten are known to have survived down to the present. Greer (emeritus Anglican studies, Yale Divinity School) provides an extensive introduction, discussing Theodore's exegesis, theology, and religious message; the translation; and the text and its apparatus. The text itself is on facing pages of Latin and English, with manuscript notes at the foot of the former and textual notes at the foot of the latter. Indices include the Swete-Greer concordance, commentary by verse, scriptural citations and allusions, and general topics. Annotation 2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
