Product Description

The first volume surveys the reception of Plato's dialogue in classical non-Christian writers, and 16 essays here look at the interpretation of it from Plotinus to Damacius and at its hidden influence in Philo, origin, and later patristic thought. Among the topics are Plotinus and the hypotheses of the second part of Parmenides, Iamblichus' interpretation of its third hypothesis, early Alexandrian theology and Plato's Parmendies, and its importance for trinitarian theology in the third and fourth centuries CE. The essays are by classicists and biblical scholars; most are from the six seminars held at the Society's annual meetings, but four are from a July 2007 conference in Tbingen, Germany. The two volumes are paged, indexed, and sold separately. Annotation 2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
